Fruition

“I am going to start a web shop page on my site and have some prints and cards for sale,” I explained. “It’s about time!” Was the reply.

Which is when I realized, ok, I really have played the ‘slow game.’ When it’s your own work, you tend to think you need to do more, or you aren’t ready yet to launch the shop, the book, paintings. That you don’t have everything set up properly. That when you look up these other artists sites, they have much more figured out than you.

I realized I needed to take some real steps to get closer to my goals. The website shop being one piece.

So the other weekend, I photographed the pieces properly that will be for sale in either card or print format. I have packing supplies sourced out, and some answers on how the shipping would work.

About the book I am working on… the writer is doing his thing, writing. I have two more illustrations to finalize, and then once we get the story and layout sorted, I will know if we need more illustrations. So, for the most part, I am waiting. But I also realize this doesn’t need to stop me. I really can and should also plan out my own book ideas.

I had used this ‘book work’ as a reason I wasn’t putting more into my Instagram page with reels and increasing engagement. So it has not been gaining momentum, but I have been consistent. Consistency has been a strength, at least, if doing ‘extra’ hasn’t been. And I am happy with the portfolio that I have built up. In fact, I am very happy with my stack of work. It does bring me joy. And I find on the days when I don’t know what to paint or where to start, the best remedy is just to put brush to page with something I have no real high hopes for, but it’s a way to warm up and then ideas start flowing from there.

So, although it can feel most days like I am not making progress or not getting anywhere fast, I know that I won’t stop. I didn’t come this far to only come this far. And I love this work, even if it feels like I never have as much time to devote to it as I would like.

And to take a quote from The Power of Your Subconscious Mind (which I have been carrying around with me to reference for leveling up my thoughts – more on that another time): ‘All my work comes to full fruition in Divine order.”

Sending Love,

Devon
