Spring Beginnings
It’s felt like a whirlwind end to winter and we are already just over a week into the spring season.
As I wrote 2 posts back, my younger son, Owen, was over for hockey provincials in the U13 age group and they won Gold! It was all very exciting, we could watch the games on live stream, for those of us that weren’t there in person for the final games. They lost just one game of their series, went on to the semi- finals and won, and then won the gold medal game for their Tier (3). It was so special for them, as most of the team have been playing hockey together since they were 5 years old. My sister and her family, who live not too far away, were able to be there in person for the final 2 games, which meant my son had his aunt, uncle and cousins out there to cheer him on.
The very next day, Owen celebrated his 13th birthday, and thankfully, they were back home so we could celebrate and have a family dinner out together.
My older guy had a nice break from school work, was happy to work at his job, earn some cash, join a drop-in jiu jitsu session, and work towards goals he has for his video games.
3 posts back.. remember Memorial? I’ve had the opportunity to say ‘yes’ more, to friends coming over. Wanting to make sure kids feel like they are welcome or could drop in, as we live in a ‘central’ area in our community. Picking up Owen from a friends house, I had the opportunity to go and say hi to this friends mom, even though Owen had his shoes on and was halfway out the door. Making an appearance and saying hi face to face is important to me as these kids get older. And knowing ‘who’s who’ of their friend groups.
With the start of spring, we now have Lacrosse and hockey for Owen.. which began today (and tomorrow) respectively. Jordan will work towards his high school completion – a computer project and power point to be done. He spent the day with my dad yesterday at his ‘smithy’ learning some blacksmithing with him. He has a woodwork project he wanted to add some hand forged hooks and nails to. And then Grad activities will commence! His final year of high school will soon come to a close.
Wishing you a beautiful spring!
Sending Love,
Devon
