Novembers

We got to the arena in Victoria and I settled down into the bleachers to watch when I see another mom wave at me and motion that I am needed by my son at the ice level. The kids had started their warm up and I look over and see that my son is not on the ice, but at the gate, holding his helmet. A clip was broken that holds the cage onto the helmet. With this piece broken, he wouldn’t be able to go onto the ice. We stayed so he could be there to watch and support his team morally, rather than physically on the ice playing.

My husband and younger son were at a hockey tournament in Vancouver, so were away for the weekend.

This time last year, the older boy had a hockey tournament up Island a little ways in Parksville. I was looking at my day timer from last year as I want to order the same kind. I am also reminded we had puppy classes this time last year. Now, Calvin is a beast of a Golden retriever / Bernese Mountain dog at 100lbs and a big love bug.

I’d forgotten already that I had taken part in a meal train. One of the hockey moms was going through cancer treatments and being a single mom of 3 boys, the community pitched in and signed up for shifts to prepare and bring them a meal. She’s recovered and doing well a year later!

My only niece, and one nephew have their birthdays in November. We had a cake celebration with my niece and family on Saturday.

I can see my note from ‘good things’ in my day planner, that this time last year a client had given me a thank you card with a restaurant gift card. My friend and I had dinner together with the gift before she moved to Alberta last December.

This November a friend left for Saskatchewan for a few months. We started a photo exchange back and forth – a sort of ‘what’s happening / day in the life’ text exchange.

Two years ago this month I finished my work exams for the main course of my job. I have just completed the milestone of being in this, my favourite ‘day’ job for 3 years. Starting into my fourth year now.

Christmas craft fairs begin soon, and November is the start of the festive season for my family, with a weeks break from work coming up as well. My favourite time of year.

When you look back on the things that fill your days, or your months – in this case, Novembers – it’s a very good life. The months feel busy but the sum of all the Novembers (and I’ve just mainly talked about the last 2) is time well spent and good memories made.

I’m just soaking up my November, loving my day to day, reading, painting, working, family time and friendships.

Sending Love,

Devon
