Rejection

“The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you.  Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision.  So write and draw and build and play and dance and live only as you can.” (unknown)

I had submitted 3 stories to a writing competition at the end of May, and with the end of August came the rejection that none of mine were selected to the ‘long list’ – the 40 stories that made the cut from 500.

I can’t take rejection the wrong way.  It is the opinion of some, and of course they are reading stories of amazing writers. Plus, all writers have received rejection letters, I should really take a picture of myself with a silly grin reading my rejection email.  A member of the club, right?  (Not to say that I am not going to keep working to improve of course.)

With September always comes new beginnings.  School year begins, and now with hockey boys, that means the start of hockey season too.  September is a favourite of mine.  I always love every season change but September has the added magic of my birthday.

This year, my birthday, the 8th falls on Saturday (I will be working). On the 8th, I was born at 8:08 am, which is why I am a morning person, I am sure of it.  And, if you ask me, I feel like that is a pretty magical arrival.  I will have a happy weekend and continue to work on adding magic to my life.

In September, another writing competition will be announced.  I may or may not get good news from that one.  I am happy with my stories and the messages they convey.  I trust in my stories, this is my passion, and I know I am on the right path.

Onward and upward,

Devon
