Creative Director: Book of Clarity

I Create: Creative Director of My Life

August 2, 2022:

I think I need to commit to myself more. I want to accomplish so much more. Art, reading and writing, I want to make more time for. But my days are so full already that I either need to get up earlier or stay up later and devote more time to my goals. My ‘no matter what,’ goals. Watching the Shania Twain documentary – she worked so hard and was so clear on her vision. And then I think of Nikola Tesla who trained himself to require less sleep, and still had so much he wanted to accomplish.

My book of clarity, I have mentioned before. It’s a big notebook. I started in 2017. I’ve written down things I am grateful for, observations, epiphanies, ideas, synchronicities, and moments I don’t want to forget. Also, realizations that came about from moments I would rather forget. I am on book two now. Volume 2 is from 2022 onwards. In August of 2022, I had a dream that told me to write with my left hand. That ‘it’ would become more clear. (‘It’ has yet to reveal itself 😂). So from then on, my book of clarity has been a left handed book. It is neater, as I had to write substantially slower, but it’s become second nature.

I will often go back and see what I wrote on certain days. See where I was at, what my mindset was. Sometimes I want to see what I had been writing ‘on that day’ in various years, if something synchronistic reveals itself.

It’s helped to see my progress, growth, ‘advancement’ (hopefully) with mindset and seeing improvement in ways of coping with things. Being more calm about things that once worried me. Being reminded of helpful realizations or ideas. I am grateful that I have much of it written down. I think it would be forgotten if I didn’t have my book to look back on. And then lessons would keep coming up to be repeated until the lesson is learned. That’s why my book of clarity is so great.

And now, what can I say about the excerpt I have entered above? Since that writing, I started getting up at 4am many mornings. Specifically so I could work on the illustrations for my book. I was already getting up at 5, and I work better in the morning. So I got up earlier. I wanted to do the book (as well as keep up other art pieces). It was something I wanted to succeed at, and not look back and wish I’d done it. Wish I’d gotten myself in gear to finish it.

And at the time of this writing, the book is done. Our bulk order is being printed now. The author, Dylan, has been in discussion with Indigo books and they are bringing it into all their stores in BC, and available at any store in Canada. He has a few other stores secured as well.

Our book can be found here. The wishing is over. I can start thinking about the next books, the next art pieces.

Until next week,

Devon
