Graduation

‘So what should we be bringing?’ I don’t know, I’ll ask, I respond to my husband. ‘What do we wear?’ I don’t know. ‘Who is going to be there?’ I don’t know everyone that’s going.

This is my husband and I, leading up to a party we were invited to last Friday night. A friend of Jordan’s, whose parents were holding a party for some grad friends and their families, had invited us over. The boys have known each other since elementary school, or in the case of one of the friends, since they were weeks old. They were born 3 weeks apart and at that time, the other mom’s family owned a local restaurant. And that’s when we met.

Since we were instructed not to bring anything, we brought flowers (mustn’t go empty handed). Catching up with some of the moms and meeting some new people was really such an enjoyable social gathering. I’m not really one for being social (very much), and maybe it was the reminiscing, or maybe it was talking about these boys hopes and future, or maybe it was the wine (kidding, I had one glass -I feel way too sick after drinking lately and it’s 100% not worth it anymore), but it was a really fun time talking with these ladies – and families. I think it was knowing we were getting together for these boys. The last time as high-schoolers. Knowing they will all go their own way but with these friends, they can pick up where they left off in 10 years and not miss a beat. They’ve done hockey together, pre-school or elementary school. They’ve trick or treated together. They’ve camped out in the back yard and a hundred other things.

After the party last Friday, the next day was the red carpet and banquet, where they all wore formal wear and had a party. I loved seeing everyone’s personalities shine through in what they chose to wear and how they showed up to the red carpet. Grads arrived in everything from a boat (towed behind a truck) to limo, dump truck to classic cars, motorbike to supercars. Jordan was invited to go along with his friend whose aunt was driving them.

Coming up this week, the formal Cap and Gown ceremony! And then that’s it. One child done school! ✔️ It’s a huge milestone, but the mom emotions haven’t quite hit me yet.

Until next week,

Devon
