Summer Expectations

Well into July.. and it feels like I am just ‘recovering’ from getting my older son through grade 11 ~ making sure he worked to complete and hand in all his work. 😂
We aren’t going anywhere this summer, just taking some time off each month to do some day trips or activities with our family and dog. We live in an area that a lot of people vacation to, in Canada, there are beautiful places all around us and beautiful weather. There is a list of things around the home and garden that I want to pick away at, and just generally not be rushed in doing it! Books I want to read, paintings I want to paint. Lakes and hiking trails to explore. That’s what my summer will look like – and we have a wedding to go to in August!
This past weekend, we were at my sister-in-laws place for dinner and she lives a block away from the Victoria inner harbour so we walked around there in the evening. It’s so busy again with tourists. Definitely back to ‘normal.’ For some time after Covid, it was all still so quiet with a fraction of the visitors normally seen there.
I always look forward to our summer easy schedule with less work. I love my job but I also love having things in order at home, which just never seems quite possible while working full time. I enjoy simple things, and every time I have a week off, I have an easy time imagining that I could definitely get used to not working! That would never mean being bored, though. There are always things I want to accomplish.
I look forward to buying some more watercolour paper for my illustrations, visiting my favourite book store, taking the boys to an IMAX movie, picnic on the beach, going walking and puttering around my house and yard. Wishing you a beautiful summer!
Sending Love,
Devon
