Pass It On
My sister shared a podcast episode with my family messenger group. Mel Robbins speaking with Steven Bartlett. I have not heard of him before, but I love what Mel Robbins shares with the world, and because my sister recommended it, I wanted to check it out.
Something I admire greatly in people, is having a very strong sense of self and being unapologetic about their path in life. Steven Bartlett explained that something that comes naturally to him is always questioning if what you are being told – by adults, by society – is the truth. And go that extra distance to find the truth. Question social norms and narratives. If something didn’t sit well with what his own intuition told him, he rejected it. He very much trusted his own gut over what others tried to tell him about how life should be lived.
This is exactly aligned with what Marisa Peer says as well, about how she chose to live her life. If you’ve been following along, you know that I found some Marisa Peer teachings years ago and this was a key aspect for her as well: reject ideas that don’t align with you. Don’t let anything ‘in’ (to your energy field, you could say), that you don’t want part of your life experience. Just don’t allow it.
Steven Bartlett says that ultimately, your happiness is your North Star. He quit University, he has never written a business plan, and has rejected a lot of ‘normal convention.’
He has great tips about making decisions- saying that overthinking is a decision, doubting is a decision, not deciding, is a decision, and suggests that you ‘out-fail the competition.’ What is failure other than experimentation to know what you want?
It did strike me particularly when he said to step out of limitations to ‘start that Instagram account.’ That’s actually exactly what I did back in 2018 when I wanted to get back into art again. I had to have creativity back in my life and although at the time, it terrified me to think other people would see my art work, I wanted to make a commitment to myself that I would do it and be accountable. He has set up Instagram accounts when he has an idea for a new business. He wants to secure the name on Instagram and then figures out the business after but knows he is committed as the Intention is set. A little secret: I set up an Instagram account that I have never used, for something I had a little thought about for the future. I also, just wanted to secure it, as an intention, but also so I don’t lose out on holding that account name.
I passed the podcast link on to a friend as there were just so many things I found aligned with her as well. She listened and texted many thanks as she passed it on to her daughter as so much aligned with her journey. And now, I pass it on to you, if you care to listen. It’s called The 51% Rule, of February 8th of this year, from Mel Robbins.
Sending Love,
Devon
