December Days
‘‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, we watched ‘Die Hard,’ wrapped gifts, ate baking and treats.
We stayed up far later than a normal night here. The cat was all snug in his bed, while the dog paced about, waiting for the rest of the family to make their way to sleep.
He put himself in his crate twice, hoping to encourage us to our beds – then wandered about wondering what made this evening so different.
When finally, still wrapping, I closed him in his crate, and the relief that he could now sleep caused an exhale so deep.
The next morning, with waking, the boys were excited. Almost as much as pup – who sniffed, paced and found a gift for himself of a little stuffed Santa.
He bit it apart within minutes, as the boys opened gifts, then Calvin settled for some new treats and enjoyed his second Christmas.
Tis the day after Christmas, and we’ve lounged for the day. Completed a puzzle, napped and read books. Ate lots of food and dinner with parents. Laughed ourselves silly and video called my little sister.
We settle in for the evening at home now, pack bags for a hockey tournament for Owen. Make tea, finish laundry and start to think of the coming days and the start of a whole new year.
In the blink of an eye, we will be on this day in 2024 wondering where the past year has gone. I hope you have had a beautiful Christmas, and if you celebrate something else, or nothing at all, I wish you a peaceful time of year and blessings.
Sending Love,
Devon
