Creative Director: The Questions

I Create: Creative Director of my Life.

This is just one of the affirmations I write down every morning. I started writing this one down due to my intention of being just that: the Creator of my life. With any kind of manifestation learning and work, you learn that you can create aspects of your life. You can be intentional. You can develop ‘systems’ to improve areas that you want to improve. So then, knowing this, you can start to check in with yourself. What do I want to create? If I can create my life, what do I want that to look like? What kind of Marriage do I want? What kind of relationship do I want to have with my kids? What will I be happy to contribute to this world?

But first, why ‘Creative Director’? I like the term as it really reminds me that I can create my life like I might think of a movie. Who would be the hero of my movie? Well, naturally, I would be. How do I want my life to look? If I was looking back on my life, what would make me proud? Ultimately, I would want to be able to say I actively participated in my life and the unfoldment of it. I would be full of regret, if I stood on the sidelines and ‘watched’ everything play out around me and to me (goodbye victim consciousness), if I didn’t take action and had a hand in ‘directing’ it in a way that would bring me Joy. And ‘bring me Joy’ is the specific piece that allows the inclusion of the word ‘Creative’ to the role, not simply the ‘Director’.

Director vs. Creative Director: Director feels more like a task oriented role to ensure things get done, or to check things off of a list. From the Dictionary: to manage, regulate the course of control. To channel or focus toward a given result. To give command or orders. Creative Director: A person who makes creative decisions. I look at this as to really outline how I want my life to make me feel. What purpose, meaning, impact do I want? What do I want to be part of creating? What people do I want to surround myself with? What energy will I allow into my life and what will I also not put up with or allow in? The title of Creative Director, to me, means that I am not just following a ‘to do list,’ but also creating that list. Creating my list. This means that it is more about the heart than the head.

Now that we’ve covered the title and why, back to the questions. I am creating. My heart plays a major role in what I want this life to look like. So we are reflecting on, what do I want to create? I saw a quote somewhere, that stated it this way: “what do I want to create? – not, what do I think I am capable of – but what do I want to create?” This hit me. When we are asking ourselves what we want, we tend to limit our requests by what we think we can do, what we think is realistic for us. Throw that reasoning in the trash, and start here: what do I want, regardless of what I think I am capable of? This is the big one, and your own questions will come up from this one.

The next one is the other big one to start with: Would I want to give anyone else my power to determine how my life ends up? Don’t ‘outsource your power’ – I saw that quote as well, and it stuck. Why would you want to give up your power? You are the Creative Director. Or, you can be.

Next week, we’ll talk about a Map. And the dreams that made me realize I needed one.
